As the wedding season begins to wind down with the arrival of wet weather and shorter days, Dance Away found themselves heading to the village of Arkesden on Saturday for a village party.
A lush barn, three hours of live music and a hundred or so merry makers from the village – a dream gig for us!
We were not the only suppliers present – the bar was run expertly by the great people at Cambridge Tent Company and the musicians were kindly treated to a superb Mediterranean meal from the excellent Boho Kitchen.
Our first hour of music started at 8:30. It often takes people a while to let loose, so to help ease people into the night we started with some soul classics (Aretha, Sister Sledge, Earth Wind & Fire…) plus some upbeat pop (Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, ABBA).
It didn’t take long for the party goers to start throwing shapes and the first hour flew by!
After a short break, we kicked off our signature Pop Ceilidh. Our amazing singer Meg shows the guests how to do a particular barn dance, and the rest of the band set it to modern music.
This is such a good way to break down peoples barriers and get everyone fully involved in the evening with a hop, skip and do-si-do!
Then it’s straight into the big hitters – the likes of our club dance medley, a bit of Spice Girls, some Queen, Killers & Beyonce.
We must say, for such a charming and civilised little village, these guys really know how to have a party!
Dance Away played right to the end of the night and came away from a packed out dance floor in very high spirits indeed.
Thanks to the community of Arkesden for inviting us along to your celebration, we would love to come back!
